The Future of Science & Technology Cooperation

The Future of Science & Technology Cooperation

Background

In November 2021, the UK and Israel signed a memorandum of understanding to work more closely together on areas including science and technology. The memorandum presents a major opportunity to strengthen the scientific relationship between both countries to support dynamic R&D systems, driving mutual productivity, sustainability, and economic prosperity.

The UK and Israel are already innovation leaders with an excellent track record of partnership. StateUp recently worked with the British Embassy Israel and FCDO Science & Innovation Network to identify opportunities and shape the infrastructure to catalyse outstanding, sustainable, and complementary collaboration for years to come.

Our Approach

We analysed the current R&I collaboration landscape between the UK and Israel, including existing mechanisms, gaps, and appetite for new bilateral R&I support mechanisms. We also provided suggestions for future focus areas and mechanisms to enhance UK-Israel R&I partnership based on interviews, a survey of 103 academic and industry leaders, and research into mechanisms used by other countries.
